FEBRUARY 2, THURSDAY, 8:00PM, SECOND STORY REP: 16857 NE 174th St, Redmond. The performance is ‘pay what you can’ (suggested donation is $5). The production is “Chicago” which originally opened on Broadway in 1975 and is the longest running Broadway musical revival. This night is sure to be a sell-out so try and pick up your ticket around 7 PM at the box office. We will have coffee or dinner before the show in Redmond Town Center. RSVP by February 1, ice/snow cancels. DIRECTIONS: From SR 520 East take the W Lk Sammamish Pkwy exit. At end of ramp, turn left. Get into far right lane and at the next light, turn right onto Leary Way. Stay in right-hand lane and turn right at Bear Creek Pkwy. Take the first left onto NE 74th St. Park on the street, in a parking garage, or in the lot. The theater is on the upper level, just past the main circle beside Borders Books and Music. FEBRUARY 5, SUNDAY, 3:00PM, SUPER BOWL PARTY: at ESS member home, Newcastle. Kick-off is at 3:30 PM – teams yet to be decided! "Chili" will be provided, and please bring a dish to share, and the drink of your choice. Cost: $2 with Food, and $5 without food. RSVP by Friday, February 3.
FEBRUARY 6, MONDAY, 6:30 PM, ESS BOARD MEETING: Lake Hills Library, 15590 Lake Hills Blvd, Bellevue. Note: this is a new location! The Board and Committee Members invite any ESS Member with ideas or information to attend this meeting. We will meet in a conference room at the library. You may bring in your dinner, if you like. DIRECTIONS: From I-90, exit at NE 148th St and turn north. Stay in the right hand lane and continue about 1 mile to Lake Hills Blvd. Turn right, and travel .5 mile to the library on the left. The Library is on the corner of Lake Hills Blvd and 156th SE. Parking is available below the library in the garage.
FEBRUARY 11, SATURDAY, 7:30 PM, RAINIER SYMPHONY: IKEA Performing Arts Center, Renton High School, 400 S 2nd St, Renton. The Classical Concert features Schumann: Manfred Overture; Mozart: Concerto for Harp and Flute; Rimsky Korsakov: Scheherazade. The price is $10 for seniors ($15 adults) and can be purchased at the door. Meet in the lobby around 7:10PM in order to sit together. The web site is www.rainiersymphony.org. RSVP by February 10. FEBRUARY 13, MONDAY, 6:45 PM, EASTSIDE SCIENCE CAFE at WILDE ROVER: 111 Central Way, Kirkland. The evening begins with a brief presentation by a scientist, followed by an extended discussion session between the scientist and audience. The February topic is the Elwha River Dam Removal with George Pess of NOAA. Confirm your attendance by Sunday, February 12. This event fills up very quickly, please arrive on time! DIRECTIONS: I-405 to Exit 18, 85th St NE. Proceed west on 85th which becomes Central Way just past the intersection with Lake St. in downtown Kirkland, Wilde Rover is on the left. FEBRUARY 19 SUNDAY, 2:00PM, FILM AT THE FRYE: 704 Terry Avenue, Seattle Flowers of Asia: Tradition and Modernity in Recent Asian Film. : Filmmakers from Taiwan and China cannot escape how their societies shift from long-held tradition to the modern world. In this discussion, Horton looks at directors who have brilliantly navigated that transition in recent years.
